Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation Donates $10,000 to USO New England
Hanscom AFB, MA (July 9, 2020) – Hanscom Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Hanscom Federal Credit Union, is happy to announce a donation of $10,000 to the United Service Organizations (USO) of New England. As part of this donation, the Foundation was the presenting sponsor for the USO’s “Military Kids Are Heroes Too!” event on Saturday, June 20 on Hanscom Air Force Base and will be sponsoring “Catch a Cold” Coffee Breaks at Coast Guard Base Boston and the US Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center throughout the summer.
The USO, while most famous for the entertainment tours they bring around the world to service members serving abroad, also operates stateside. The organization improves morale, acts as community centers for troops away from home, provides special programs for families, and connects troops on tours of duty with family waiting back home. Their annual “Military Kids Are Heroes Too!” event celebrates the children of Hanscom Air Force Base and acknowledges the sacrifices they make as their parent serves the nation. This year, costumed superheroes from the USS Constitution and a Hanscom FCU volunteer made quarantine-friendly deliveries of superhero-themed goody bags of coloring books, snacks, capes and masks, and craft kits to children of active-duty military families living on Hanscom AFB.
“We’re proud to be able to help support such a wonderful organization as the USO,” said Paul J. Marotta, Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation’s Chairman. “Their work with military families is a cause that is near and dear to us. These events in particular are going to lift the moods of many at a time when it’s so very needed. We’re honored to be able to provide these troops and families with a smile this summer.”
